Something beyond the sky is watching. That’s where my new horror novel The Rift That Watches Back begins. It’s a story about a quiet town called Briar Hollow where reality is starting to break, and the people inside must figure out what’s watching them through the cracks.


The story follows Rowan and Maeve, two people trying to hold their town together as the world begins to twist in impossible ways. Strange creatures move through the Texas hills. Leaders across the country begin acting strangely. And the fractures in the sky reveal something terrifying: an intelligence that is studying humanity. Every decision people make—good or bad—teaches the thing behind the rift how to defeat them.


What makes this story different is the question at its heart. What if the enemy doesn’t want to destroy us right away? What if it wants to learn from us first?
